SmiLe Incubator and several of the incubator companies are attending BIO-Europe November 5-7 in Copenhagen. This year the life sciences partnering conference, the largest in Europe, is being held outside the German speaking countries for the first time. It is also record-breaking in size: 4,400 attendees and 122,000 prearranged meetings.
A SmiLe Incubator representative is attending at BIO-Europe, presenting all SmiLe companies at meetings with the industry and venture capital companies, and thus building networks and relationships in order to provide additional growth potential to the startup companies. SmiLe Incubator’s mandate includes supporting startup companies in the life sciences in their efforts to build their companies, commercialize their products and services, and arrange their funding.
Attending a large partnering conference is an excellent way for early companies to get to know their market and validate their technology.
“We receive constant confirmation that SmiLe’s ongoing strategic initiatives to establish relationships with industry representatives and investors are effective; for example, pharmaceutical companies often contact us because of their interest in our companies. In addition, ‘Sweden Going Global,’ a three-year project that we sponsored together with Medeon and Invest in Skåne, gave outstanding results. It aimed to support the internationalization of the startup companies. The evaluation showed that 60 percent of the startup companies secured at least one customer agreement during the period,” says Ebba Fåhraeus, CEO of SmiLe Incubator.
SmiLe companies Thyrolytics, ReceptorPharma, In2Cure, Gedea Biotech and Prebona HealthCare have arranged their own partnering meetings to meet potential customers and partners, as well as investors. Their attendance at the conference was financially supported by verification funding provided by Vinnova and distributed through SmiLe.
Thyrolytics is developing a device that uses biosensors to diagnose thyroid disorders.
“We look forward to meeting the major medical device companies that are active in thyroid diagnostics and would like to discuss partnering and future licensing, as well as assistance with funding,” says Mohamad Takwa, CEO of Thyrolytics.
About BIO-Europe: BIO-Europe is one of the largest international partnering conferences and meeting places for the life science industries. Important aspects include the efficient and focused partnering system, along with lectures, workshops, seminars and networking events. Quite simply, this is the venue to meet the industry on an international level. All pharmaceutical companies are represented by their scouts and business development teams.
